  • How old does my child need to be to start?

    Scouting has different sections for various age groups, starting from Beavers (6-8 years), Cubs (8-10.5 years), Scouts (10.5-14 years), Explorers (14-18 years), and Network (18-25 years).

  • Where & when do you meet?

    We meet on Monday evenings at Maghull Town Hall, Hall Lane, Maghull, L31 7BB Beavers & Cubs meet at 6pm until 7:15pm Scouts & Explorers meet 7:30pm until 8:30pm

  • How much does it cost to be a member of scouting?

    As a volunteer run charity organisation we try to keep our running costs as low as possible and to ensure scouting is open to everyone. With that in mind we charge a monthly subscription of £15 that covers our fees we pay to Scouting UK for all the leader training, safeguarding and insurance to enable us to deliver the adventurous programme we offer.

  • What activities can my child expect to do?

    Activities vary by section but can include camping, hiking, canoeing, rock climbing, community service, first aid, arts and crafts, and skill-building workshops. We also enjoy field trips to local fire stations, visits from our community police officers and day trips to activity events.

  • Who will be looking after my child?

    Trained adult volunteers lead Scouting activities. All leaders undergo background checks and receive training in safeguarding and safety.

  • Is Scouting inclusive?

    Yes, Scouting is open to all young people regardless of background, ability, or faith. It promotes diversity and inclusion. Since 1976 Scouting has warmly welcomed both boys and girls into the movement.

  • How can I get involved as a parent?

    Speak to any of our volunteer leaders, parents can volunteer in various roles, from assisting with activities to administrative support. Involvement is encouraged and always gratefully received.

  • What uniform does my child need?

    Each section has its own uniform, which typically includes a shirt, neckerchief, and badges. Shirts and uniforms can usually be purchased from Scouting suppliers online, the group neckerchief and badges will be awarded once your child completes their basic induction and training in scouting.

  • How are safety and safeguarding ensured?

    Safety is a top priority. Activities are risk assessed, and leaders are trained in first aid and safeguarding. Policies are in place to protect all members.
