Safeguarding and Safety Policy for the 12th Maghull Scout Group
At the 12th Maghull Scout Group, the safety and well-being of our members are our top priorities. We are committed to creating a secure and supportive environment for all young people, volunteers, and leaders. This policy outlines our approach to safeguarding and safety in line with The Scouts UK Policy.
1. Safeguarding Principles
1.1 Commitment to Safety:
- We ensure all members, especially young people, feel safe, valued, and respected.
- We actively promote an environment where concerns about safety and well-being are heard and addressed promptly.
1.2 Policy Adherence:
- Our safeguarding practices adhere to The Scouts UK Safeguarding Policy and procedures.
1.3 Responsibility:
- Every adult involved in the 12th Maghull Scout Group has a responsibility to safeguard the welfare of young people.
2. Safe Recruitment
2.1 Background Checks:
- All volunteers and leaders undergo enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks before they commence their roles.
2.2 Training:
- All adults are required to complete mandatory safeguarding training and refreshers as specified by The Scouts UK.
2.3 References:
- At least two references are obtained for all new volunteers and leaders.
3. Code of Conduct
3.1 Behaviour Standards:
- Adults and young people are expected to behave in a manner that respects the dignity and safety of others.
- Any form of bullying, harassment, or abuse is not tolerated.
3.2 Reporting Concerns:
- All members are encouraged to report any concerns or allegations of abuse immediately to the Group Scout Leader or Safeguarding Coordinator.
4. Responding to Concerns
4.1 Immediate Action:
- Any disclosures or suspicions of abuse are taken seriously and acted upon swiftly.
4.2 Reporting Procedures:
- Concerns are reported to the relevant authorities in accordance with The Scouts UK procedures.
4.3 Support:
- Support is provided to individuals involved in any safeguarding concern, ensuring confidentiality and sensitivity.
5. Safety Policies
5.1 Risk Assessments:
- Comprehensive risk assessments are conducted for all activities, trips, and events.
- These assessments are regularly reviewed and updated to address any emerging risks.
5.2 Supervision Ratios:
- Appropriate adult-to-young person ratios are maintained for all activities, in line with The Scouts UK guidelines.
5.3 First Aid:
- Qualified first aiders are present at all meetings and events.
- First aid kits are available and regularly checked and replenished.
5.4 Health and Safety:
- The premises, equipment, and activity sites are maintained to ensure they meet health and safety standards.
- Emergency procedures are clearly communicated and practiced regularly.
6. Online Safety
6.1 Digital Communication:
- Digital communication between leaders and young people is conducted through approved channels and platforms, ensuring transparency and security.
6.2 Cyber Bullying:
- Online bullying is treated with the same seriousness as physical bullying, with appropriate measures taken to address and prevent it.
7. Inclusion and Diversity
7.1 Equal Opportunities:

8. Monitoring and Review
