Welcome to the Cubs section of the 12th Maghull Scouts Group! Our Cubs section is tailored for young people aged 8 to 10.5, providing a lively and supportive environment where they can develop essential life skills, build lasting friendships, and embark on exciting adventures.
Activities and Events Cubs at the 12th Maghull Scouts can look forward to a variety of engaging activities and events designed to challenge and inspire them, including:
Outdoor Adventures: Cubs participate in outdoor adventures such as nature walks, short hikes, and learning basic orienteering skills. These activities foster an appreciation for the outdoors and teach valuable skills like teamwork and navigation. We also organise camps, including district camps such as Windings and Skills, where Cubs experience camping under the stars and participate in campfire activities.
Water Activities: Cubs engage in water-based activities including kayaking and canoeing on the canal. These activities teach water safety, paddling skills, and encourage a love for adventure on the water.
Skill Development: Cubs participate in workshops and practical sessions to develop skills such as basic first aid, cooking simple meals, and learning knots and lashings. These activities not only prepare them for future Scouting adventures but also instil confidence and independence in their everyday lives.
Community Service: Cubs actively participate in community service projects, such as environmental clean-ups, supporting local charities, and helping at community events. These experiences teach Cubs the importance of giving back to their community and instil a sense of responsibility and empathy.
Team Challenges: Activities like team games, problem-solving exercises, and group challenges help Cubs develop teamwork, communication skills, and leadership qualities. These activities are designed to be fun and engaging while encouraging Cubs to work together towards common goals.
Badge Work: Cubs work towards achieving badges in various areas, including outdoor skills, creative activities, and community service. One of the key milestones for Cubs is working towards the Silver Award, which represents a significant achievement and recognises their commitment and effort in developing new skills and knowledge.
Cultural Activities: Cubs explore different cultures through themed activities, storytelling, and learning about traditions from around the world. These activities broaden their horizons and encourage them to appreciate diversity and cultural heritage.
Development Targets and Goals The Cubs programme is designed to help young people achieve a range of developmental targets and goals, including:
Personal Growth: Cubs develop self-confidence, resilience, and independence through participating in challenging activities and taking on responsibilities within their pack. They learn to overcome obstacles, try new things, and develop a positive attitude towards learning and growth.
Teamwork and Leadership: Cubs learn valuable teamwork skills by working together on projects and activities. They also have opportunities to take on leadership roles within their pack, such as Sixer or Seconder, where they learn to motivate others, make decisions, and take responsibility for their actions.
Practical Skills: Cubs acquire practical skills that are useful in everyday life and for future Scouting adventures. These skills include first aid basics, cooking simple meals, and basic outdoor survival skills, which help them become more self-sufficient and capable.
Community Engagement: Cubs develop a sense of community spirit and social responsibility through participating in community service projects and supporting local initiatives. They learn the importance of contributing positively to society and making a difference in their local community.
Adventure and Exploration: Cubs are introduced to the spirit of adventure through outdoor activities and exploration. They learn to appreciate the natural world, develop a love for outdoor activities, and build resilience and adaptability through exploring new environments and facing challenges.
Moving Up to Scouts As Cubs progress through their journey, they prepare themselves for the transition to Scouts. They build upon the skills and experiences gained in Cubs, further developing their leadership abilities, outdoor proficiency, and sense of community responsibility. This progression sets the stage for them to continue their Scouting journey towards achieving the prestigious Gold Award, the highest award for their age group in Scouts.
